What is the empathy map

It is a tool used to develop empathy and understand others' needs and motivations. It helps you go beyond your own experience and look at the situation from someone else's point of view. The empathy map is often used in design, marketing, and product development, but is also applicable in other areas, including social projects and pedagogy.

How an empathy map will be useful for children

Understanding the perspective

The empathy map teaches children to see situations from different perspectives, which is an important part of creative thinking.

Imagination development

The empathy map stimulates imagination and helps you find innovative solutions.

Analysis of emotions

Sketching and discussing a person's emotions in a particular situation helps children better understand their feelings and motives.

Creating stories

It helps to come up with scenarios for games and stories, that is, it develops creativity and improves storytelling skills.

Problem solving

In problem situations, the empathy map helps children find more flexible and creative ways to resolve disputes.

Improved communication

Working with an empathy map helps develop communication skills and understanding others, which is important for successful teamwork.

Regular practice

Using an empathy map regularly in a variety of contexts, from analyzing books to discussing real situations, will help your child strengthen their creative thinking skills.

The structure of the empathy map

The empathy map typically has four main sections, each focusing on different aspects of a person's experience.

#1 What he says

What does a person say about themselves, their problems, needs and desires? What words does he use? What phrases are repeated? It is important to capture verbal signals here.

#2 What does he think

What thoughts and beliefs control a person? What are his fears, doubts, hopes? What are its goals? Here it is necessary to make assumptions about a person's intrinsic motivation.

#3 What does it do

What does a person do? What actions does he take in his life related to the problem? What habits does he have? This is where the observed behavior is analyzed.

#4 What does he feel

What emotions does a person feel? What feelings dominate his life? What concerns does he have? It is important to understand the emotional component here.

#5 What he hears

How does his environment influence his thoughts and feelings?

#6 Pain

What are his fears, concerns, and anxieties?

#7 Gain (Results)

What does he want to accomplish? What are his wants and needs? What's stopping him from doing that?

An empathy map helps you understand other people's emotions, promotes effective communication and success.
